When a group of children saw carrion-eating birds near a drain and chased them away in Gujarat's Surat, little did they know that the birds were circling an abandoned foetus.
Upon realising, the children calls the cops, who discovered the foetus, nestled among a pack of empty cigarettes near a drain.
According to a report by NDTV, the incident took place in Surat on January 9, and the subsequent search for the mother of the foetus led to the doorstep of a 16-year-old girl.
Further investigation by the cops revealed that the girl met a 17-year-old boy over Instagram, became friends, and eventually got into a relationship, following which the girl became pregnant.
Upon learning about the pregnancy, the boy first fled to his home in Uttar Pradesh, and then to Mumbai, from where he sent her a pack of tablets to end the pregnancy.
The girl promptly took two tablets, following which she had a miscarriage at home.
The girl then left home and threw the foetus away, the publication reported citing cops.
The boy, meanwhile, has been detained, and will be produced before a Juvenile Justice Board.
