Ahmedabad: The Junior Doctor's Association (JDA), B J Medical College (BJMC) on Saturday while requesting to stop rumours that a large number of doctors perished in the Air India plane crash on hostel buildings, said that four MBBS students were killed in the accident when they were having lunch.
In the accident, 20 other MBBS students sustained injuries, out of whom 11 were discharged.
"In reference to the recent plane crash incident, JDA-BJMC clarifies that a total of four MBBS students from the college, who were having lunch in the mess building have sadly passed away," JDA said in a press note issued on Saturday.
The association said that some individuals were spreading rumours suggesting a high death toll among medical college students and resident doctors. "We appeal to everyone not to be misled by such misinformation and to refrain from spreading rumours further."
Those students who died in the accidents are Jayprakash Chaudhary - 2023 batch, Manav Bhadu - 2024 batch, Aryan Rajput - 2024 batch and Rakesh Dihora from 2023 batch.
According to the association, four family members of super speciality doctors who were residing in "Atulyam" building also died.
Despite repeated attempts, President of the association Dr Dhaval Gameti didn't respond for comments.
On Thursday afternoon, Air India's London-bound flight carrying 242 people on board crashed into the medical college residential and mess building moments after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.
Several video clips showed MBBS students trapped under the debris of the mess building when they were having lunch.
Although the state government is yet to release the final death toll, it has reported that at least 33 people were impacted including MBBS students, families of resident doctors, tea sellers and other visitors who used to visit the spot frequently near the Civil Hospital.
