It is not clear whether they were passengers or those who were killed on the ground at BJ Medical Campus where the flight with 242 people onboard crashed onto.

"A team of 70 to 80 doctors has been deployed at the post mortem room of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital since yesterday. Five bodies identified so far have been handed over to their families," the government said in a statement.

It said that after ascertaining the identities of the five dead bodies, they were handed over to their families. These bodies include two each from Rajasthan and Bhavnagar and one from Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site in Meghaninagar and met the lone survivor of the ill-fated plane, Ramesh Viswashkumar. The 40-year-old British national is recuperating at the civil hospital where his condition is stable.

After visiting the site, PM Modi wrote on X, "Visited the crash site in Ahmedabad today. The scene of devastation is saddening. Met officials and teams working tirelessly in the aftermath. Our thoughts remain with those who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy."
