According to sources, the aircraft began its takeoff roll when the pilot declared a “Mayday, Mayday” to air traffic control. The takeoff was immediately aborted following the distress call.

Sources said that the aircraft, ATR76, was to take off at 11 am. The pilot sent a warning of fire in one of the engines.

They said the flight was immediately vacated.

An email sent to Indigo for comments remained unanswered.

The terrifying news comes a month after Air India's Ahmedabad to London flight crashed into the BJ Medical College compound on June 12, killing 241 passengers on board and 19 on the ground.

A preliminary report stated that the fuel supply to both the engines stopped three seconds after the take off as fuel cut-off switches transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF in less than a second, resulting in the crash.
