Ahmedabad: Two persons, including the delivery man were injured in a parcel bomb explosion in Ahmedabad city on Saturday. Police said that the home made bomb was sent by a history sheeter bootlegger who was angry over his wife's divorce petition.
Police said that at 10:45 AM a loud explosion was heard in a row house located on IOC road under Sabarmati police station area. The delivery man identified as Gaurav Gadhvi was handing over the parcel to Kirit Sukhadia when it exploded, leaving both of them injured.
The target, police said, was Kirit's brother Baldev who escaped unhurt. Later, Baldev told reporters that he refused to accept the parcel and he had not placed any order.
However, the delivery man insisted that one Sureshbhai had sent it. While the argument was on, the parcel exploded injuring his cousin Kirit and the hands of the delivery man were torn off. Baldev also said that due to the massive explosion, he was momentarily blinded.
Joint Commissioner of Police, sector-1, Neeraj Badgujar told Deccan Herald that the parcel was sent by Rupen Barot who was angry over his wife's divorce petition she filed about ten months ago.
"Barot suspected that it was Baldev Sukhadia who was instigating his wife leading to filing of divorce. Barot has several cases of bootlegging and has also been booked under PASA (Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act)," Badgujar added.
The police raided the house of Barot where they found a "mini-factory" of making bombs and country made guns. The police recovered many incriminating materials suggesting Barot was involved in making illegal arms and bombs.
