One of the pilots who ejected safely after a Jaguar fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed while on a training mission, at a village near Jamnagar IAF station in Gujarat.

Ahmedabad: A pilot of a Jaguar fighter jet of the Indian Air Force was killed while the other is said to have safely ejected after the fighter jet crashed near a village in Jamnagar IAF station on Wednesday night.

Jamanagar district superintendent of police Premsukh Delu, who was at the spot, told DH that rescue operation was on and were waiting for the IAS personnel for identification of the pilots and other details.

He confirmed that one of the pilots was rushed to the hospital. The fighter plane crashed in an open field at Suvarda village in Kalwar road in Jamnagar.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known. It is believed that the pilots were on a training mission when the fighter jet crashed.

Eyewitnesses reported a big explosion followed by thick smoke coming out from the crash site.
