Mortal remains of ex-Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani identified; last rites to be held in Rajkot

Ahmedabad: Gujarat' home minister Harsh Sanghavi on Sunday announced that the DNA sample of former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has matched and his mortal remains will be sent to Rajkot for the last rites.
"Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani passed away in the Air India's Ahmedabad to London flight on June 12. Today, at around 11:10, his DNA matched," Sanghavi informed reporters.
BJP sources said that the last rites will be held at his native in Rajkot where preparations are underway. The former CM was one of 241 victims of the AI 171 plane which crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12.
The Boeing 787 flight had crashed soon after takeoff into hostel buildings of BJ Medical College in Meghaninagar. The plane had a total of 242 people, including 230 passengers, 10 crew members and two pilots.
Earlier today, Dr Rajneesh Patel, additional superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, informed media that 31 DNAs have been identified and 12 bodies were handed over to their respective families.
