Ahmedabad: Senior advocate Devang Vyas resigned as Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of Gujarat High Court as well as Bombay High Court on Wednesday.

Confirming to DH, Vyas said that he resigned to focus on private practice after serving the central government for 12 years. He was appointed as Assistant Solicitor General of Gujarat High Court back in 2014. In 2023, he was given the additional charge of ASG of Bombay High Court.

Vyas, 48, has in the past appeared as special counsel for Gujarat government before the Commission of Inquiry headed by justice Nanavati and justice Mehta pertaining to 2002 post Godhra riots.

Besides, he represented the Gujarat government in the Supreme Court as a special Counsel. Among the high profile cases, he represented Union Home minister Amit Shah in Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case.

Meanwhile, in a notification, the Union law ministry appointed advocate Pradip D Bhate as in-charge of central government's litigation before the Gujarat high court till further orders.
