Ahmedabad: Three workers were killed while cleaning a tank used for washing jeans for garment manufacturers in Ahmedabad on Friday. Police said that the contractor and the manager of the company have been rounded up for investigation.
According to police, the incident occurred at a company, M K Creation, which deals in washing cloths for garment manufacturing units in Danilimda area. They said that five workers were cleaning the tank when one of them fell inside and collapsed.
"The worker passed out due to some poisonous gas. Two other workers entered the tank to save the first one who also fell unconscious and died," Danilimda police official told reporters.
The victims have been identified as Sunil Rathva, Vishal Thakor and Prakash Parmar. Police said that Naushad Shaikh of MK Creation had given the contract of cleaning the tank to Jignesh Purabiya for Rs18,000. Purabiya hired five workers for the job. Police said that Shaikh and Purabiya have been rounded up for investigation.
At LG Hospital, where the victims had been rushed, their family members alleged negligence on part of the company behind the tragic incident. They said that the company hadn't provided any safety gears and were left unattended which led to death.
