Ahmedabad: A woman was killed and seven others injured in Vadodara late Thursday night in an incident suspected to involve drunk driving. CCTV footage of the accident reportedly shows the intoxicated driver shouting, "another round".

Police said that the driver of the car which crashed into several vehicles, and the co-passenger have been arrested. Police said that prima facie it was a case of "over speeding" which led to the accident.

The driver behind the wheel has been identified as Rakshit Chaurasiya who is originally from Varanasi. Police said that he is a student of law faculty at Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara.

Police said that Chaurasiya was driving Volkswagen Virtus which rammed into two two-wheelers and hit several bystanders.

In the accident, Hemali Patel, who was out shopping for Holi festival, was killed. Police said that she was declared brought dead at the hospital. One person was critical while three other shifted to private hospitals who are said to be in stable condition.

Police tracked the co-passenger identified as Pranshu Chauhan and arrested him later on Friday. The video clips taken soon after the accident shows him getting out of the car and running away. However, Chaurasiya was caught was the bystanders who also thrashed him before police could visit the spot.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Panna Momaya told reporters on the spot, "prima facie, it is a case of over speeding in which one person was killed while many others sustained injuries." When asked if the suspects were under the influence of alcohol, she said that it can be established only after medical examination.
