Boxer Saweety Boora celebrates her win; Saweety Boora with her husband Deepak Hooda at Hisar police station

Indian boxer and world championships gold medallist Saweety Boora assaulted her husband Deepak Hooda, former captain of the Indian Kabaddi team, at the police station in Hisar. The incident was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media.
In February this year, the Arjuna awardee has lodged an FIR against her Asiad bronze-winning kabaddi player and husband Deepak Hooda, accusing him and his family of assaulting her for dowry.
In the viral video, Boora can be seen charging at Hooda, who can seen seated opposite to her. As she grabbed her husband by the collar, their respective family members tried to stop Boora.
On Sunday, March 23, Boora held a press conference and alleged that the Hisar police officials had failed to act against Deepak Hooda in the dowry case.
Addressing the press conference, she said, "On March 11, I informed the Hisar SP that I no longer want to live with him. I don’t want a single penny from him—just a divorce and my belongings. I submitted a partial list of my belongings, but no action has been taken in over a month..."
She also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for justice, reported news agency IANS.
She said that if any untoward incident happens to her, Hooda and Hisar SP Sawan will be responsible.
“I had told the SP Sawan in February that I need divorce, and I don’t need alimony. The SP has not taken any action against Deepak, instead the Hisar police officials are harassing me and my family," she said.
Addressing the allegations levelled by her husband Deepak Hooda that Boora family wants to grab his property, Saweety said that Deepak had very poor financial background before their marriage, and she made him co-owner of a plot in Hisar.
As per a report in Hindustan Times, Boora has alleged that Deepak had been torturing her since their marriage in 2022 and demanded a Fortuner SUV as dowry instead of a Creta car that her family had initially planned to gift. Her father deposited Rs 11.59 lakh with Toyota and took a loan to buy the vehicle.
On Sunday, she said that she had attempted suicide due to the consistent abuse.
Hooda had unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Haryana assembly polls as BJP nominee from Meham constituency in Rohtak district. He was a part of the Indian kabaddi team which won the gold medal at the South Asian Games in 2016 and the bronze in the 2014 Asian Games. He has also competed in Pro Kabaddi League.
