The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday asked the Election Commission (EC) to probe into the reported fake degree of Gujarat Health Minister and BJP leader Shanker Chaudhary.

A division bench headed by the Gujarat High Court acting Chief Justice Jayant Patel and Justice N V Anjaria observed that the EC cannot become passive in such cases and sought a reply from the state government, the minister in question, superintendent of police of Patan and two educational institutes in question.

Chaudhary, legislator from Vav Assembly constituency in North Gujarat district of Banaskantha, became a minister  in May 2014.

The petition in the Gujarat High Court seeks to know how the minister, who received his Higher Secondary Certificate in March 2011, got an MBA degree in 2012. The petition was filed by Congress-worker Farsu Goklani, who said that Chaudhary,  had a fake MBA degree.
