After a dry spell, rains returned to Gujarat on Thursday night, with 58 of over 251 talukas in the state receiving good rainfall in last 12 hours.

As per the state Emergency Operations Centre, a total of 25 talukas received between two to five inches of rain, with other 33 receiving up to one inch of rain. The rains continued on Friday morning, with Kapadvanj taluka in Kheda district of Central Gujarat received 137 mm of rains, followed by Godhra receiving 120 mm of rains. Sanand in Ahmedabad received up to 107 mm of rains, with Ahmedabad city clocking 101 mm of rains in four hours between 8.00 am to noon.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a statement that a well-marked low-pressure area lying over the state would bring rains. With today's (Friday) rains, the average percentage of seasonal rain in the state this year has reached to 58%.

The city of Ahmedabad witnessed waterlogging in many areas. “We have received 36 complaints of tree falling and we have attended to it. There are also complaints of waterlogging and we are working on it,” Bijal Patel, Mayor, Ahmedabad city, said.

With heavy rains predicted for coming 48 hours, caution has been advised and citizens requested not to venture out of their homes, unless necessary.
