A 22-year-old techie, who underwent a surgery to gain height in April, is now bedridden.
While the latest X-rays revealed that an inch-long gap between the bones in both his legs was not filling as fast as the surgeons had promised, he is now losing sensation in his feet.
Hoping to grow taller overnight, S Nikhil Reddy, son of Secunderabad-based realtor Govardhan Reddy, underwent a surgery at Global Hospital in Lakdikapul on April 5 without informing his parents. The anxious family searched for him in every hospital, fearing he might have met with an accident.
He was finally traced to Global Hospital based on his call records. A team of doctors under orthopedic and knee replacement specialist Dr Chandrakanth cut his bones and inserted rods to make him appear taller.
“Nikhil always wanted to grow taller. He tried all kinds of exercises and even used to order online medicines that would help him grow a few more inches. But we never thought he would resort to such a dangerous step,” his father said. “I have lost my job. I now work online from home to keep myself busy,” said Nikhil, who paid Rs 2.5 lakh for the surgery.
The doctor, who assured Nikhil that he would start walking within a month and even play football, visits him every fortnight.
“As no doctor is ready to even offer a second opinion, we are left with no option but to consult the same doctor. During his last visit, the doctor said the bone was not growing and hence, my son won’t be able to walk for at least two more months,” Govardhan said.
