In a heartwarming incident from Himachal Pradesh, a group of doctors rushed to provide medical assistance to an elderly patient ailing from Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), an age-associated prostate gland enlargement. However, they neither took an ambulance or private vehicle to reach his doorstep. They trekked 14 km to attend him.

Amidst unlikely weather and flooded streets, the medical team walked on foot for over ten kilometres to reach 78-year-old Lajje Ram, a resident of Mandi's Barad village. The man suffered from BPH, a condition that may cause difficulty in urination.

The doctors from the Community Health Centre in Thunag battled monsoon to perform their duty.

The incident quickly caught attention, drew admiration, and made to the headlines.

Mandi chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Deepali Sharma, speaking to Hindustan Times, recalled that Ram was in distress after his Foley catheter got blocked.

"Due to his extreme weakness and the complete lack of transport, a team of health workers led by Dr Abhishek from CHC Thunag hiked through the hilly route to Barad village. They successfully replaced the catheter and provided him immediate relief", the report quoted the officer.

Sharma shared that the medical team has been efficient despite challenging weather conditions in the region. So far, the department has reportedly conducted health checkups of more than 18,000 people and provided essential medicines to over 5,000 needy.
