The “mentally unstable” youth, had locked himself in a room at Bakshi-ka-Talab area, about 20 km from here, with the licensed gun of his father and firing intermittently at the police and whosoever tried to bring him out since Wednesday night. The youth, identified as Shamim Ahmed, is a BEd student and is suffering from “mental disorder,” police said.
Twenty-eight-year-old Shamim had locked himself in a room on the second floor of his house since Wednesday night. His family sought police help when all attempts to bring him out of the room failed, officials said. The police also tried to mix sleeping pills in the food but he did not consume it. Shamim had fired around 15 rounds from the double-barrelled gun before being captured.

The police finally made a hole in the roof and fixed a web camera to monitor the position of Shamim. The commandos broke open the door when they found that Shamim was at a good distance from the gun and captured him.
“He is suffering from some kind of a phobia...he thinks everyone wants to kill him. Earlier also he had locked himself in a room,” said the youth’s family. Shamim has been taken to hospital for medical attention.
