A day after India's armed forces carried out Operation Sindoor, Pakistan attempted to target India's military installations using drones and missiles in 15 cities in the northern and western sectors.

However, the Indian armed forces were able to neutralise this threat using their Russian-made S-400 missile defence system.

Pakistan's attack comes a day after India destroyed 9 terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam which claimed the lives of 26 people.

S-440-defence system

India acquired five units of S-440 Triumf missile defence system from Russia for a steep price of $5 billion. The deal was signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018.

Safe to say, India got its money's worth when it was able to thwart Pakistan's attack on Thursday night, anticipating their drones and missiles with its remarkable defence system.

The S-400 missile defence system is a mobile surface-to-air missile and is considered to be the world's most advanced long-range air defence systems, feared by the NATO countries as well.

According to a report by NDTV, these systems are capable of tracking targets which are up to 600 kilometres away and can intercept incoming threats to up to 400 kilometeres.

S-400 missile defence system is made up of three parts—Missile launchers, a powerful radar and a command centre which allows it to hit aircraft, cruise missiles and even fast-moving intermediate range ballistic missiles.
