The Income Tax Department on Tuesday raided pulse traders and business centres in various cities on charges of tax evasion following information that the traders indulged in hoarding and financial irregularities.

Twenty teams comprising 60 officials carried out simultaneous searches in Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Indore and a few other cities in Uttar Pradesh.

Sources said the search teams seized several documents and computer hardware from the locations.

Sleuths raided the premises of a group of traders in Delhi’s old city area, while a commodity exchange and those operating in it were searched in Mumbai.

The searches were conducted after taking permission from the Central Board of Direct Taxation.
