The Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad has said the chairman of its board of governors, Kumar Mangalam Birla, has accepted the resignation of its director Ashish Nanda.
In a statement, the IIM-A said Nanda would continue in his position until September 1.
A 1983 IIM-A alumnus, Nanda left Harvard Law School to head the institute. He said in a letter addressed to the IIM-A community: “This is as good a time as any for leadership transition at the institute.”
One of the most vocal opponents of the earlier IIM Bill proposed by the Modi government, when Smriti Irani was the HRD minister, Nanda pointed out that the bill handed control of the business schools to the government from the strategic to the operational aspect.
He highlighted how the bill allows the government to handle everything from selecting the board chairman to determining the fee structure and managing the expenses.
