IISc in top 200 world varsities

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, has been ranked fifth among the Brics nations universities, 33rd among the Asian universities and 147th among top 200 world varsities.

According to the Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) ranking of world university results declared on Tuesday, the IISc has also grabbed 47th position in subject-wise ranking for its material sciences undergraduate programme. The prestigious institute had been placed at 34th position among the top Asian Universities by the QS ranking last year.

While the international rating agency placed India at 24th position in the list of the countries evaluated for determining world’s strongest higher education systems, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, was ranked 16th among the Brics nations (Brazil Russia India China and South Africa) universities and 35th among the Asian Universities.

IIT, Delhi was placed at 179th position among the top 200 world universities, 36th among Asian Universities and 13th among the Brics nations.

In QS top 100 Asia University ranking list, IIT, Madras made it to 43rd position, IIT, Kanpur 48th, IIT, Kharagpur 51st, IIT, Roorkee 78 and Guwahati 94, while Delhi University grabbed 68th position, University of Calcutta 108th, University of Mumbai 145th.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been ranked 168th for the quality of its faculties among the top 200 universities in the world.
