MUMBAI: Rolls-Royce has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) at Powai, Mumbai, to enable knowledge exchange, upskilling, and joint research in areas of mutual interest.
Under the agreement, Rolls-Royce will host IIT Bombay students selected for internships, offering them an opportunity to work alongside its defence engineering team in Bengaluru.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Sachin C. Patwardhan, Dean of R&D at IIT Bombay, and G.S. Selwyn, Executive Vice President of Rolls-Royce India, in the presence of Alex Zino, Director of Business Development and Future Programmes, UK and International, Rolls-Royce, along with senior representatives from both sides.
“This partnership with IIT Bombay reflects our broader commitment to building strategic collaborations that advance shared ambitions in innovation, talent development, and technology leadership,” said Selwyn.
“As we deepen our engagement in India, initiatives like this help unlock new opportunities to co-create solutions through structured engagement between academic and industrial ecosystems. We look forward to knowledge-sharing opportunities with the experienced academics and faculty at IIT Bombay,” he added.
In a statement, Rolls-Royce noted that as engineering demands intensify across sectors, the ability to support cutting-edge research and translate it into practical, scalable solutions is becoming a critical differentiator. “Closer collaboration between academia and industry can become a key enabler of future-ready talent, applied innovation, and national competitiveness,” it said.
