Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday withdrew the ‘red alert’ issued to Tamil Nadu for extremely heavy rainfall. However, the MeT Department said a few districts would receive rains on Sunday.

The IMD had on Thursday issued red alert warning to Tamil Nadu, which took precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents.

“The extreme heavy rainfall warning announced for the southern parts of the state has been withdrawn since the upper-air circulation had weakened. However, places like Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari might receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, instead of extremely heavy rainfall, in the next 24-48 hours,” Deputy Director General S Balachandran said here.
