Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing in eight forward sectors along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, violating ceasefire agreements and prompting retaliation from Indian troops, officials said on Monday.
This marks the 11th consecutive night of Pakistan's unprovoked firing along the LoC, amidst heightened tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following the killing of 26 people in the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
The UN Security Council will hold closed consultations Monday on the situation between India and Pakistan after Islamabad sought an emergency meeting on the issue.
Pakistan currently sits as a non-permanent member of the powerful 15-nation Security Council, which is being presided over by Greece for the month of May.
Islamabad "requested closed consultations" on the tensions between the two countries and the Greek Presidency has scheduled the meeting for May 5 in the afternoon.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke to his Pakistani counterpart on Sunday and offered Russia's help in resolving tensions between Pakistan and India over Kashmir, the Foreign Ministry said.
"Particular attention was paid to the significant rise in tension between New Delhi and Islamabad," the ministry said in a statement, referring to Lavrov's conversation with Ishaq Dar, who is also Pakistan's deputy prime minister.
"It was stressed that Russia is ready to act for a political settlement of the situation resulting from the act of terrorism of April 22 in the Pahalgam area of the Kashmir valley, in the event of a mutual desire on the part of Islamabad and New Delhi," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on Telegram.
As per media reports, the Ferozepur Cantonment on Sunday night carried out a 30-min long blackout rehearsal to test preparedness as tensions between India and Pakistan mounts.
"The blackout was done from 9 PM to 9:30 PM. As per the orders of the senior officers, lights were fully switched off. If any vehicle was found with their light turn, it was turned off...Police are fully alert. Deployment has been made at all intersections," The Times of India quoted Gurjant Singh, SHO, Ferozepur Cantt Police Station as saying.

The civil and military leadership of Pakistan has briefed the country's political parties on tensions with India in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack.
All political parties barring former prime minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf party attended the in-camera briefing on Sunday, the Dawn newspaper reported.
The political leaders vowed a robust response if India resorted to any "misadventure", the paper quoted a source privy to the briefing as saying.
The briefing was given by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.
This comes after PTI reported yesterday that India has stanched the flow of water through the Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River and is planning similar measures at the Kishanganga Dam on the Jhelum River, a source said.
The source familiar with the matter said these hydroelectric dams -- Baglihar in Ramban in Jammu and Kishanganga in north Kashmir -- offer India the ability to regulate the timing of water releases.
India's decision to suspend the decades-old treaty follows the killing of 26 people, mostly tourists, in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.
The Indus Waters Treaty, brokered by the World Bank, has governed the use of the Indus River and its tributaries between India and Pakistan since 1960.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti says, "The message is that the people of Pahalgam are very saddened. They are pained. They are worried because 'pakad-dhakad' (summoning for questioning by security agencies) is the highest here.
"Although the people here tried to help as much as possible, they rushed people to the hospital, donated blood and saved lives, everyone was considered overground workers or terrorists; they are being summoned, locked up and released in the evening.
"Hundreds of people in Pahalgam are locked up as of now. The same is the case at other places too. So, I think this is not right. This should not happen because when Kashmiris are open-hearted, people of the country too should trust them, this 'pakad-dhakad' by Police or Army should be stopped."

Iran's foreign minister urged India and Pakistan on Monday to exercise restraint as he arrived in Islamabad for a one-day visit, while the nuclear-armed rivals trade accusations over a deadly attack in disputed Kashmir.

Amid attempts to hack and compromise multiple websites, including of Army Welfare Education Society-linked institutions, in the past few days, the army is taking "appropriate and necessary" measures to bolster cybersecurity infrastructure and strengthen digital defence mechanisms, sources said on Monday.
At least two members of the senior management categorically dismissed social media claims that the website of Delhi-based think-tank Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses had been "hacked".
Cyberattacks targeting several Indian websites, especially of academic institutions, have been reported in recent days, particularly after the April 22 Pahalgam attack.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended a Pakistani national who intruded into the Indian territory, officials said on Monday.
On May 3 night, the BSF troops on duty in the area of Border Out Post (BOP) Sahapur, a flanking BOP of Dariya Mansoor, observed suspicious movement near Falku Nala ahead of the border fence and approximately 250 metres inside the Indian territory.
An unidentified individual, later identified as a Pakistani national, was seen hiding in the bushes and wild growth, the officials said.

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology Branch says, "Post terror attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, 2025 some social media influencers and social media platforms in the country seem to be working against the interest of the country which is likely to incite violence."
The committee requests Ministry of Electronics and IT and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to provide contemplated action taken to ban such platforms under IT Act 2000 and ‘Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 by 8 May, 2025.
