Karnataka Congress asks ticket aspirants for 2023 assembly polls to apply

With just months to go for the upcoming assembly elections in Karnataka, the state Congress on Wednesday announced the process for poll tickets, by asking aspirants to apply for it through submission of an application, along with Rs 2 lakh Demand Draft (DD) and details of their membership.

Also claiming that many, including leaders from other parties are willing to join it, the Congress also announced that it has also re-launched its membership drive and that anyone can apply. However, the party pointed out that the applications will be scrutinised by a special committee, which will decide on their induction.

PM Modi likely to visit Radha Soami Satsang in Punjab on Nov 5

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Radha Soami Satsang at Beas in Amritsar on November 5, BJP sources have said.

He is expected to meet sect head Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon, they said on Wednesday.

On the same day, Modi is scheduled to address public meetings in Himachal Pradesh in the run up to the November 12 assembly polls there.

Delhi HC seeks ED's stand on plea by D K Shivakumar against money laundering probe

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the Enforcement Directorate's stand on Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar's plea challenging a money laundering probe initiated against him by the agency.

A bench of justices Mukta Gupta and Anish Dayal issued a notice on the MLA's petition which also assails the constitutional validity of the inclusion of the offence pertaining to disproportionate assets under the Prevention of Corruption Act as a "scheduled act" under the Prevention of Money Laundering (PML) Act.

PM Modi condoles death of Arunachal MLA

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed grief at the death of Jambey Tashi, a BJP MLA in Arunachal Pradesh, and said he was a promising leader who was passionate about serving society.

Tashi (48) represented the Lumla constituency in Tawang district.

"Pained by the untimely demise of Shri Jambey Tashi Ji. He was a promising leader who was passionate about serving society. He worked hard for Arunachal Pradesh’s progress. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family and supporters. Om Mani Padme Hum," Modi tweeted.

Akali Dal suspends Jagir Kaur from party

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday suspended senior leader Jagir Kaur from the party and issued a two-day ultimatum to her to stop anti-party activities, failing which strict disciplinary action would be taken against her.

Announcing this, SAD Disciplinary Committee Chairman Sikander Singh Maluka said it was mandatory for Jagir Kaur to clarify that she would not contest the forthcoming elections to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday took a swipe at the Congress saying it is a party of 'rajas and ranis' and even though many chief ministerial aspirants might be in the fray in Himachal Pradesh no one will get a chance in reality.

Act against corrupt ministers: Cong to Goa CM

Congress leader Girish Chodankar on Wednesday asked Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to act against corrupt ministers.

Chodankar said, "If the CM can suspend government employees for wrongdoings, then what stops him from taking action against corrupt ministers."

Sawant on Monday had said that in the last four years as the Chief Minister, eight or nine employees have been suspended. "Even major vigilance complaints were filed against 10 to 12 staff. We do it for transparent governance and to give justice to the public," he had said, while appealing to the people to approach the Public Grievances Cell to make the state corruption free.

Bharatiya Janata Party sitting MLA Jambey Tashi died at a Guwahati hospital after a brief illness on Wednesday, a family member said.

Tashi (48), a three-time MLA from Lumla seat, was also a member of the National Minority Morcha of the saffron party.

Condoling his cousin’s death, Chief Minister Pema Khandu tweeted “Demise of brother Shri Jambey Tashi ji, Hon MLA of Lumla Assembly Constituency is a huge personal loss to me and I am so deeply pained at this tragedy.
