All eyes are now on the BJP central leadership over its next step in strife-torn Manipur, a day after President's rule was imposed in the northeastern state and the assembly put under suspended animation.
Security has been beefed up across the state following the Centre’s announcement of President's rule, officials said.
President's rule was imposed in Manipur and the assembly put under suspended animation on Thursday evening, days after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned from his post that led to political uncertainty in the state.
The decision came as the BJP failed to build a consensus on a chief ministerial candidate, despite having several rounds of discussions between its northeast in-charge Sambit Patra and legislators.
Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedham on Thursday said there is no need for Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma to speak on the phone-tapping row in the state assembly as Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena has denied that his phone was tapped.
Opposition party Congress has been demanding the CM's reply on the matter in the assembly.
Bedham, who is the minister of state for Home, said that tapping phone calls is a culture of the Congress. BJP does not tap the phones of MLAs or ministers, he said.
The BJP on Thursday demanded the lieutenant governor's intervention into renaming of official 'CMO Delhi' handle on X to 'Arvind Kejriwal At Work' allegedly at the behest of the former chief minister.
The BJP must stop making "baseless allegations" and focus on governing Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said in a statement.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva demanded Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to seek a report from the IT department of the government on renaming of the 'CMO Delhi' handle on X and its alleged use for putting up posts of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
“I think this is a big victory for India. Only because of the dialogue India shares with the US could we achieve such a breakthrough. The prime accused of 26/11, Tahawwur Rana, has not only been exposed to the world but will also be extradited to India. I believe there is no greater victory for every victim of 26/11. I salute PM Modi for being able to get Donald Trump to say this on an international platform.”
On PM Narendra Modi's US visit, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor says, "So far, what we have seen from the press statements by the Prime Minister and President Trump are very encouraging. Some of the big concerns we all had have been addressed. On the question of trade and tariffs, they have decided to sit down together and do a serious negotiation that will conclude by September-October... On the illegal immigration issue, the only thing missing was the manner in which they were sent back. Otherwise, his stand was absolutely correct. These are misled youth who have been encouraged and induced to migrate illegally... On the defence front, the commitment to sell us the F-35 stealth aircraft is very valuable because that is a state-of-the-art aircraft... I am very encouraged with the details received so far and I look forward to more details when the Prime Minister and his team are back... We have got all that we could have expected, except for an assurance in the way the migrants were sent back..."
"Lalu Yadav said that Ram Temple will not be built till he is there. What happened to that statement? Now, Shri Ram temple has been built in Ayodhya. Lalu Yadav can keep taking such resolutions. Whenever he takes such resolutions, the BJP grows. Your resolution gives us more strength...The people of Bihar have seen 'jungle raj' during his government. Now, the people of Bihar are with the development and Nitish Kumar's NDA government."
Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Friday said "internal conflicts" are happening among BJP MLAs over portfolio allocation and accused the party of making excuses to avoid fulfilling its poll promises.
Addressing a press conference, Atishi claimed that BJP leaders were engaged in a "tussle" over ministerial posts to "exploit" public funds.
She further alleged that the BJP had no intention of delivering the commitments the party made in its election manifesto.
"We have learned from our sources that the BJP is planning to blame the AAP for its failure to fulfil promises. They will claim that the Delhi government has no money due to the previous AAP administration," Atishi said.
Highlighting the AAP government's financial track record, she stated that Delhi's budget had increased from Rs 31,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 77,000 crore in 2024-25 during its tenure.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "covering up" the alleged corruption of businessman Gautam Adani.
In a post on X, he said, the PM maintains silence when questions are asked in the country and terms it a personal matter when asked abroad.
"If you ask questions in the country, there is silence, If you ask abroad, it is a personal matter!

On President's rule imposed in Manipur, CPI-M leader Brinda Karat says, "This reflects the utter bankruptcy of the double engine government, both at the centre and in the state. It is not in Manipur's best interest. It is purely a political manoeuvre to try and save the coalition from collapse. We all know that the Chief Minister, a man who was responsible for the violent turmoil and distress in Manipur, was backed by the BJP-RSS all through. He resigned only because of the court case in which his partisan role was being exposed.
"All this time, the PM has not even visited Manipur once. Now, the demand is to ensure the democratic rights of the people of Manipur, including holding fresh elections in a time frame."

“That is what is being reported. We don’t know exactly what PM Modi spoke to President Trump and what was discussed. Only the PM can tell the nation and instill confidence in the people of India by clarifying exactly what was discussed and what the American president has agreed upon."
