Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed the BJP-RSS on the row over the movie "Phule", alleging that they want to erase Dalit-Bahujan history at every step so that the real truth of caste discrimination and injustice does not come to the fore.
The film's director, Ananth Mahadevan, said it has been delayed due to objections raised by the Brahmin community and not because the censor board suggested amendments.
"Phule" is based on the lives of social reformers Jyotirao Govindrao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule.
In a post in Hindi on X, Gandhi said, "On one hand, BJP-RSS leaders pay homage to Phule ji in a superficial manner, and on the other hand, they are censoring the film made on his life!"
Mahatma Phule and Savitribai Phule devoted their entire lives to the fight against casteism but the government does not want to let that struggle and its historical facts come on screen, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha alleged.
Nearly two years after parting ways, the AIADMK and BJP on Friday rekindled their alliance, with Union Minister Amit Shah declaring that the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election will be fought under the leadership of AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami.
He also slammed the ruling DMK for 'diverting' attention from key issues by raking up matters like delimitation, NEET and the 3-language policy.
Palaniswami, also known as EPS, said the AIADMK was honoured to be welcomed into a partnership with NDA . "An alliance founded on a shared vision for Tamil Nadu’s progress and prosperity," he said in a social media update.
The DMK criticised the AIADMK for joining hands with BJP, calling the alliance a big "betrayal of Tamil Nadu."
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday mounted an attack against the DMK in Tamil Nadu, accusing the ruling party of raking up issues like delimitation and 3-language policy to divert attention from serious issues and warned people will seek answers from its leadership over "rampant corruption".
The DMK hit back, accusing the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of 'imposing' Hindi on Tamil Nadu and targeting opposition leaders with cases.
BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu have always been highly critical of the DMK, and former IPS official K Annamalai, who became the party state president in 2021, was no exception. He sustained the tempo.
After serving as party president for four years, Annamalai on Friday was among the ten leaders from the state who proposed the name of party’s vice president and lawmaker Nainar Nagendran for the president’s position.
BJP senior leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the party envisaged a greater role for Annamalai at national level.

The opposition YSRCP on Friday accused the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh of sheltering online abusers, particularly those targetting women. YSRCP spokesperson Shyamala made the allegations in the wake of TDP worker C Kiran Kumar's arrest for allegedly abusing former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's wife. Kumar was arrested based on a complaint, produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody on Friday, Guntur SP S Satish told PTI. “The arrest of Kumar is a staged drama, and even though he named N Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh as the instigators, yet no action was taken. Is law applied selectively?” asked Shyamala in the press release.
"Hindus' security is the responsibility of Mamata Banerjee along with Muslims. Murshidabad violence shows Hindus are forced to flee West Bengal... It is unfortunate that this is happening in front of the state government..."
"Kanimozhi should explain why the DMK is being so hypocritical, unprincipled and double-faced... Why is the DMK aligning with the Congress? Was it not the Congress government during the Emergency, which dismissed Karunanidhi, her father's government? Was it not the Congress Party which was responsible in 1991 for dismissing the DMK government? Why is the DMK now aligning with the Congress party?... People will never forgive the DMK because they know they are aligning with Congress out of sheer opportunism. This is why the victorious BJP-AIADMK alliance will defeat and boot out the divisive DMK-Congress alliance in the coming assembly."
"Assam CM should not be under the illusion. All the Muslims of Assam are unhappy. All the Muslims of Assam want this bill (Waqf Amendment) to be repealed. BJP is snatching the Waqf land of Muslims. This should not happen, we will not let it happen. We will fight the legal battle in the Supreme Court and we will also protest in a democratic way...Muslims of Assam are very sad and we are against the Waqf property that BJP wants to snatch from us..."
