A day after Beijing offered to play a “constructive role” in improving India-Pakistan relations, New Delhi rejected the proposal, saying no “third party” could have any role in resolving its disputes with Islamabad.

“We have been ready to have a dialogue with Pakistan on all issues, including on Jammu and Kashmir, in a bilateral framework. That position has not changed,” Gopal Baglay, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, said on Thursday.

He was reacting to a remark made by Geng Shuang, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Chinese government in Beijing, on Wednesday. Geng said that India and Pakistan were important South Asian nations, but the “situation in Kashmir has attracted the attention of the international community”.
