India was positioned seventh among 110 countries, matching its best-ever rank achieved previously in 1998 and 2001.

This year’s IMO saw the participation of 630 students from across the world, including 69 female contestants.

Notably, this is only the second time that India has won three gold medals at the IMO — the first being in 1998.

The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), a national centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), serves as the nodal agency for Olympiad programmes in India.

Last year, India achieved a historic feat by winning four gold medals at IMO 2024. Since India’s debut at the Olympiad in 1989, the country has secured a total of 23 Gold Medals, of which 12 have been won between 2019 and 2025. Impressively, 9 of these golds came from the last three IMOs (2023, 2024, and 2025), highlighting India’s rising excellence in mathematics.

The three Gold medallists are Kanav Talwar and Aarav Gupta from Delhi and Adhitya Mangudy from Maharashtra.

The two Silver medallists are Abel George Mathew from Karnataka and Aadish Jain from Delhi while the Bronze medallist is Archit Manas from Delhi.

The team was accompanied by Prof. Shanta Laishram, Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi as the Team Leader, Dr. Mainak Ghosh, Indian Statistical Institute, Bengaluru, as the Deputy Leader, Atul Shatavart Nadig, a BS student at MIT, USA, as Observer A, and Dr. Rijul Saini as Observer B.

India also set a new national record in terms of team score, with a total of 193 out of a maximum 252 points, the highest-ever achieved by an Indian IMO team. Each student can score a maximum of 42 points, making the team total 252.

This is the third consecutive year that India has ranked among the top 10 at the IMO, with Rank 9 in 2023, Rank 4 in 2024, and Rank 7 in 2025.

Overall, India has featured in the Top 10 a total of seven times in its 35 appearances at the IMO excluding 2020, when India did not participate due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
