India will stress on plugging the gaps in the international legal framework for nuclear security during a summit in the Hague next week.
New Delhi will emphasise that all countries participating in the Nuclear Security Summit should be party to the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism (ICSANT) and the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and Nuclear Facilities (CPPNMNF).
External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid will lead India’s delegation to the third Nuclear Security Summit, to be hosted by the Netherlands in the Hague on March 25.
India is party to all 13 universal instruments accepted as benchmarks for a state’s commitment to combat international terrorism, including the ICSANT. It is not only party to the 1979 Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material, which resulted in its renaming as Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and Nuclear Facilities.
