KCR asks officials to prepare for relief efforts amid heavy rain forecast

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday asked officials to be prepared to take up rescue and relief measures in view of forecast of rainfall in the state in the next few days.

Rao, who held a meeting with ministers and officials on the rain situation in the state, said Telangana has been witnessing rains during the last couple of weeks. The state may see a bigger problem than the recent flooding in view of forecast of fresh downpour as the water (following heavy rains during the last few days) would lead to overflow in the rivers, he said.

Several parts of Chhattisgarh on alert for flood-like situations amid heavy rain

Authorities in several parts of Chhattisgarh, including Raipur, were on Saturday asked to stay alert for flood-like situations due to heavy rains since the previous day. Bijapur in south Bastar is worst-affected with several smalls rivers and rivulets flooded, leading to disruption in normal life for people, an official toldPTI.

Telangana Chief Secretary asks District Collectors make arrangements to prevent loss of life

Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar held a teleconference with senior officials and District Collectors and apprised them about the heavy to very heavy rainfall threat across the state and need to be vigilant. He asked them to focus on ensuring that there is no loss of human life.

Collectors should ensure that all the officials in the district are available in the headquarters and no leave should be granted, Kumar further said. He asked them to identify low-lying areas and keep relief camps ready.

Monsoon death toll in Pakistan reaches 304 amid incessant rainfall, flash flooding

The death toll from more than five weeks of monsoon rains and flash flooding across Pakistan has reached 304, authorities said Saturday.

Since mid-June, the deluge has swollen rivers and damaged highways and bridges, disrupting traffic. Almost 9,000 homes have been fully destroyed or partially damaged.

For the second time in less than two weeks, Telangana is witnessing flood-like situation with heavy rains leaving rivulets, lakes and reservoirs in a spate.

Incessant rains in Hyderabad and some other districts inundated low-lying areas, disrupting road transport and bringing normal life to a halt.

Three persons died in rain-related incidents while one person went missing. Two persons died in a building collapse in Warangal town early Saturday while a person on a motorbike died after hitting a road divider in a flooded area of Medak district.

Authorities on Saturday opened gates of twin reservoirs —Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar — on the outskirts of Hyderabad due to huge inflows following heavyrainssince Friday.

People living in areas along Musi river have been cautioned to remain alert as the two reservoirs are likely to get more inflows.

Meanwhile, the Central Water Commission said Musi river is flowing in extreme flood situation at Anantharam in Nalgonda district.

Hamlets in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra face monsoon ordeal as road links snap

For hundreds of tribals living in six remote hamlets in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli, stocking up essentials and medicines before the onset of monsoon is an annual ritual as rains cut off these places from the rest of the district for four months due to the swollen water bodies.

Situated on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, Binagunda, Turremarka, Kovakodi, Perimilbatti, Fodewada and Damanmarka villages form the state’s last frontier.

Tribals in these villages have to either walk 18 to 25 km to Laheri village or cross the nullah in a "donga" (small wooden boat) for supplies. The local administration also reaches out to these villages to provide essentials and life-saving medicines to last the monsoon months.

At least 18 people were killed in flash floods caused by heavy rains in Iran's southern province of Fars, state media said on Saturday.

Khalil Abdollahi, head of the province's crisis management department, said heavy rains near Soltan Shahbaz village in Estahban caused flooding from the Rodbal Dam.

Rains in large parts of Rajasthan, more likely in coming days

Rains lashed large parts of Rajasthan with Kota's Ladpura area recording the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 am on Saturday at 130 mm, according to the meteorological department.

During the same period, Jaipur tehsil received 100 mm of rainfall, Deoli 9 mm, Jhalawar and Bidasar 80 mm and Thanagazi 70 mm, the weather office said.

Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several districts including Sawai Madhopur, Sri Ganganagar, Nagaur, Bharatpur, Dausa, Sikar, Banswara and Ajmer.

In Jaipur, rains started on Friday evening and continued through the night. The capital city and its surrounding areas received good rains during the last 24 hours, the meteorological department said.

The weather office has forecast more rain in the state in the coming days.

Central team concludes visit to Telangana's flood-hit districts

Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar briefed the Central team visiting the state on the damages caused by the recent heavy rain and floods in some districts.

The inter-ministerial team led by Saurav Ray, Joint Secretary, Union Home Ministry, returned to Hyderabad on Friday night after visiting the flood-affected districts during the last two days.

The team comprising senior Central government officials came to Hyderabad on July 20. Divided into two teams, they visited affected districts on July 21 and 22.

Earlier, it held a meeting with Rahul Bojja, Secretary, Disaster Management, and reviewed the situation in the state.

Five people died in rain-related incidents in Telangana

According to Warangal Police Commissioner Tarun Joshi, two persons died and one was injured on Friday night when an old building collapsed and fell on an adjacent hut where the duo lived, due to incessant rains. "It is an old building and nobody was there in that when it collapsed. It appears the building collapsed due to incessant rains since yesterday," Joshi told PTI.

Light rainfall was recorded in insolated pockets of Delhi even as showers remained elusive in several areas of the national capital on Friday, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD)

The maximum temperature settled at 33.9 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius, IMD said.

"Traces of rain were recorded in Pusa. While 7 mm rain was recorded at Mayur Vihar, 3 mm at Jafaror and 4 mm at Najafgarh," the weather office said.

The relative humidity oscillated between 98 per cent to 69 per cent, the weather office said.

Heavy rains lashed Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana on Friday leading to waterlogging at several places in the city and elsewhere in the state. According to the meteorological office here, Khammam received 80 mm of rainfall, while Nalgonda got 25 mm till evening. In Hyderabad, the Urban Health Centre at Hafeezpet received 103.3 mm of rain, followed by Jeedimetla (102.5 mm), the Telangana State Development Planning Society said citing rainfall data between 0830 hours to 2000 hours on Friday.

Rajasthan weather: Orange alert issued for heavy rain in next 3-4 days

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for parts of Rajasthan, indicating heavy rainfall during the next three to four days.

According to the MeT department, monsoon will remain active in many parts of the state on Friday, Saturday and Sunday amid the activity of two new western disturbances.

The centre has issued an 'orange alert' for heavy to very heavy rains in Ganganagar and Hanumangarh districts of the state in the next 24 hours.

Along with this, heavy rain has been predicted in Jodhpur, Jaipur and Kota divisions and very heavy rain at some places.
