"Delhi-based Sahal Kaushik from Vandana International School won the top honours by notching the Gold medal while three other Indian students won silver in the IBO. The event saw participation from 60 countries with 240 students. We did well despite tough competition," Prof Vijay Singh, National Coordinator for Science Olympiads, said here at a felicitation function for the winners on Monday.
The three silver medallists are: Apoorva Singh Yadav from Jawaharlal Nehru School (Bhopal), Preet Hathi from DPS (Jodhpur) and Syed Mustafa Hashmi from Sri Chaitanya Junior College (Hyderabad).
The four were chosen after three rounds of selection procedure which had over 8,000 students appear in a nationwide held examination, he said.
The test is conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) and Association of Teachers in Biological Sciences (ATBS).
The remaining two rounds consisted of a series of difficult selection tests both theoretical and practical, he said, adding these were conducted at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education -- a nodal centre for all Science Olympiads.
Sasikumar Menon, Assistant Director, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Laboratory (Mumbai) and Rekha Vartak, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (Mumbai) led the team.
Besides, Ansuman Chattopadhyay, Department of Zoology, Visva Bharati (West Bengal) went along with the team as an Observer at the Olympiad.
