Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked the police's Crime Investigation Department (CID) to confiscate properties of the accused in the murder case of Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh.
A Home department official on Saturday also said Fadnavis has asked the authorities to cancel the arms licenses of people whose pictures or videos showing them firing in the air or flaunting guns in public have circulated on social media.
UP's Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar on Saturday said that Lord Hanuman was born in the Rajbhar caste.
Rajbhar, who heads the Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP), a BJP ally, also hit back at Congress and Samajwadi Party for their newfound "love for BR Ambedkar".
Addressing a public meeting, Rajbhar said, "Hanuman ji was born in Rajbhar caste. When (demon) Ahiravan took Ram ji and Laxman ji to Patal Puri, no one had the courage to bring them back. Only Hanuman ji, who was born in the Rajbhar caste, was the only one to have the courage to do it. Hanuman ji brought Ram and Laxman ji out of Patal Puri."
Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday claimed that the Congress' hypocrisy stood exposed as the party sought to "politicise" former prime minister Manmohan Singh's last journey.
In a series of posts on X, Vaishnaw accused the Congress of repeatedly sidelining Singh during his tenure as the prime minister.
"Congress's hypocrisy stands exposed as they politicise Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji's last journey. Congress repeatedly sidelined him during his tenure as PM," the I&B minister said.
His remark came as Congress leaders accused the BJP-led NDA government of insulting Singh by performing his last rites at Nigambodh Ghat instead of a designated spot that could be turned into his memorial.
Former minister and four-time MLA Ravindra Chavan is likely to be the next Maharashtra BJP President.
Chavan (54) may be anointed as the next BJP President during the grand state-level convention in the temple town of Shirdi on January 12, 2025 coinciding with the birth anniversary of the legendary monk-philosopher, Swami Vivekananda.
Considered close to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Chavan would take charge from incumbent Chandrashekar Bawankule, who has been made the state Revenue Minister.

AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal says, "...In my New Delhi assembly constituency - their (BJP) 'operation Lotus' has been going on since December 15. In these 15 days, they have filed application for the deletion of 5,000 votes and the addition of 7,500 votes... Why there is a need to conduct elections if you are manipulating approximately 12% of total voters in the assembly? A kind of 'game' is being going on in the name of election..."
“BJP has accepted its defeat in Delhi. They don’t have any CM face, candidates, or any vision for the people of Delhi…BJP wants to win elections by fighting dishonestly but we will not let that happen. It has long been the practice to set up a memorial at the same place where the last rites are performed. However, the BJP-led Union government mishandled the issue and worsened the situation, the party alleged.
