New Delhi: Around 25,000 “infiltrators” were arrested in close to 9,700 infiltration attempts at India’s borders with Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, Bhutan and Nepal between 2014 and November 2025 but not a single case was reported from India-China border, official statistics showed.
The Ministry of Home Affairs’ data showed 8,632 infiltration attempts were reported on the India-Bangladesh border arresting 21,407 people since January 2014, the highest for any borders of the country.
On the India-Pakistan border, 457 infiltration attempts were foiled with the arrest of 605 people while on India-Myanmar border, 2,602 people were arrested in 393 instances of infiltration attempts. On the borders with Bhutan and Nepal, there were 211 incidents in which 312 people were arrested.
Altogether, there were 24,926 infiltration attempts during the period in which a total of 9,693 people were arrested.
Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai has told the Lok Sabha last month that 93.25 per cent or 2,135.13 km of 2,289.66 km-long international border between India and Pakistan have been fenced while 154.52 km remain unfenced.
However, 20.92 per cent or 856.77 km of 3,239.92 km-long India-Bangladesh remain unfenced. Only 9.21 km of 1,643 km Indo-Myanmar border is fenced.
The MHA data showed that the infiltration attempts were higher last year compared to previous years as 1,104 instances were detected in the first 11 months of 2025 alone as against 977 in 2024 and 746 in 2023. In the past 11 years, there were 8,632 infiltration attempts in which 21,407 were arrested.
Thirty-two incidents of infiltration attempts were counted in 2025 till November on the India-Pakistan borders, less compared to 41 reported for the whole of 2024. Altogether 457 cases in which 605 people were arrested in such incidents in the past nearly 11 years.
The India-Myanmar border also saw an increase in infiltration attempts in 2025 reporting 95 incidents till November as against 37 in 2024 and 40 in 2023. There were 393 incidents in which 437 people were arrested since 2014.
On India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan, there were 78 instances in 2025, more than double from 23 in 2024. There were 211 infiltration attempts on India’s borders with the two countries in which 312 people were arrested in 11 years.
