The Interpol has issued a global arrest warrant against diamantaire Nirav Modi's wife Ami in connection with the over Rs 14,000 crore Punjab National Bank scam, officials said on Tuesday.

The Interpol Red Corner Notice has been issued following a request by the Enforcement Directorate, which had registered a case on the basis of a CBI FIR against Nirav, Ami, his brother Nehal and uncle Mehul Chokshi among others.

In September last year, the Interpol had issued a red corner notice against Nehal in the case. A similar notice has been issued against Nirav's sister Purvi Modi also.

Nirav, Ami, Nehal and their uncle Mehul Choksi had fled India in the first week of January 2018, just before the Punjab National Bank initiated the process to complain against them.

In January-end 2018, the bank filed a complaint with the CBI following which an FIR was registered. According to the FIR, they had conspired with officials of the PNB for fraudulent issuance of Letters of Undertakings (LoU) that led to the scam.

Nirav, who is lodged in a jail in the United Kingdom, is presently facing extradition proceedings in the United Kingdom where he is in custody.
