An IPS officer trainee was caught red-handed using a cellphone and a Bluetooth speaker to cheat his way through the ongoing UPSC mains exam in Chennai.

According to a report by the Times of India, Safeer Karim, an assistant superintendent of police, currently on probation in Nanguneri subdivision of Tirunelveli of Tamil Nadu, was attending the UPSC mains exam being held at the Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School For Girls, Egmore. During the frisking, he handed his wallet and phone, which he claimed to have forgotten to remove, to the security officers, allowing him to conceal the phone he used for cheating in his socks.

During the exam, his wife, Joicy N Zia, helped him out by dictating the answers from Hyderabad, which he noted onto the answer scripts.

However, he did not realise that the IB, which was already suspecting him of cheating in past exams, was tailing both him and his wife, and was caught by a team of 4 officers who followed him to the exam hall.

Safeer and his wife have been detained by the police pending further investigation.
