It also declared that the party would hold a 24-hour ‘satyagraha’ at Rajghat in Delhi to protest the police action.

“It is a blot on democracy.... the action against peaceful and unarmed fasting people was taken on the orders of Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi,” BJP president Nitin Gadkari said here while addressing a press conference.  He also demanded an apology from the prime minister and Congress president.

“It reminds us of the black days of emergency....this government has no moral right to continue in power,” he said appealing to the people to come out on the streets in a peaceful manner.

Gadkari said senior BJP leaders would hold a 24-hour ‘satyagraha’ at Rajghat from Sunday evening in protest against the police action. “We have applied for the permission but will go ahead with our protest even if it is denied,” the BJP chief said.

“The UPA government is not serious in acting against corruption and unearthing black money,” he said.

The BJP chief, however, evaded a reply when asked about the allegations that the Patanjali Yogpeeth, controlled by Ramdev, had grabbed public lands in Hardwar.

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav also condemned the police action and said it reflected the “mental bankruptcy” of the government.

He also took strong exception to calling Ramdev a “fraud” and said that the Congress and Congress-ruled states were bigger frauds.
