Srinagar: A day after chairing a security review meeting in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha held another high-level security meeting in Jammu on Thursday to assess the region’s security situation

The series of back-to-back meetings follow similar discussions chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi earlier this week. Interestingly on both the occasions, LG Sinha kept chief minister Omar Abdullah out of crucial security meetings.

The meeting in Jammu, like Srinagar, was attended by top officials from various security agencies, including the Police, Army, CRPF, and intelligence agencies, sources confirmed.

The primary focus of the meetings in both Srinagar and Jammu was to address key security issues, such as law and order, as well as the persistent threat of infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border.

The discussions are expected to address both current security threats and strategies to maintain peace and stability in the UT.

“Sinha directed the security forces to intensify the anti-militancy operations in Jammu and Kashmir and urged them to avoid harm to civilians during such operations,” sources added.

This direction came in the wake of recent incidents that have sparked outrage in the UT, including the killing of a truck driver, Waseem Mir, in Baramulla on February 6 by Army firing, and the suicide of young Makhan Din in Kathua allegedly after torture by police to admit his involvement with militants.

The two incidents sparked outrage across Jammu and Kashmir with political parties accusing the security forces of high-handedness and demanding investigations.

Following the meeting in Srinagar on Wednesday, Lieutenant Governor Sinha took to X to share his remarks: “Chaired a high-level security meeting today at PCR, Srinagar. Directed J&K Police and its various wings to work in close synergy with each other and intensify the efforts to crush terrorism and those aiding and abetting terrorists.”

The back-to-back security reviews highlight the heightened focus on maintaining law and order and addressing emerging threats in Jammu and Kashmir.
