Sources said during overnight raids across south Kashmir targeted individuals suspected of being linked to militant organizations were detained for questioning.

“Some of the detained persons were later released and some are still being investigated. The detained individuals are being interrogated to gather intelligence on militant networks and potential future threats,” they said and added that the operation was a direct response to the targeted attack in which retired Lance Naik Manzoor Ahmad Wagay (45) was killed and his wife and niece were injured.

Wagay, who had retired from Territorial Army (TA) in 2021 is survived by his wife, four daughters and a son.

A senior police officer said the raids are part of a broader strategy to apprehend individuals who are part of the larger network supporting terrorist activities in the valley.

Immediately after the attack J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said the “perpetrators of this cowardly attack” would be soon punished.
