Srinagar: Two more groups associated with the Hurriyat Conference—Jammu and Kashmir Tahreeqi Isteqlal and Jammu and Kashmir Tahreek-I-Istiqamat—have formally renounced separatism and pledged their allegiance to India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The announcement was made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday. The move comes just two days after similar declarations were made by two other affiliates of the Hurriyat Conference.
“Two more groups affiliated with the Hurriyat, namely J&K Tahreeqi Isteqlal and J&K Tahreek-I-Istiqamat, have discarded separatism and reposed their trust in the new Bharat built by PM Shri @narendramodi Ji,” Shah posted on X.
He said under the Modi government, “separatism is breathing its last, and the triumph of unity is echoing across Kashmir.”
Earlier on Tuesday, J&K People’s Movement and J&K Democratic Political Movement (JKDPM) announced the severing of all ties with separatism.
The renunciation of separatism by groups within the Hurriyat Conference signals a potential end to decades of unrest and a move toward greater political stability in Kashmir. The government of India has remained firm in its stance on the full integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, a move that stripped the region of its special status.
Sources said more groups may join the growing list of those abandoning separatism in coming days which could encourage Hurriyat top brass to reconsider their positions.
