Despite the boycott of R K Nagar bypoll by the Opposition parties, the ruling AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, who is contesting on Saturday, is not taking it lightly.
The R K Nagar constituency wore a festive look with huge graffiti, digital banners and posters as Jayalalitha launched her election campaign on Monday. Thousands of cadres gathered to have a glimpse of “Amma” as she was to address the public for the first time after hitting the campaign trail for general elections.
Jayalalitha, who looked extremely relaxed in her car, was accorded a rousing welcome by her party workers and supporters as she left her Poes residence at about 6:15 pm for poll campaign, her first public meeting after more than a year.
Addressing a huge crowd, Jayalalitha said victory is not enough. “Massive victory is my aim,” she said. “Though other political parties know very well that they cannot secure a victory over AIADMK, they are justifying their boycott with various reasons,” Jayalalitha said. She said the poll is forced on the people because of the conspiracy of her opponents.
