The Rs 4.5-lakh battery-operated car was donated by the CM from her personal fund. While another car with ten seat capacity was donated by the State Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.

Srirangam, encircled by Cauvery and Kollidam rivers in Tiruchirappalli district, is revered as being the foremost of the 108 ‘Vaishnava Divyadesas’ in the country. The temple complex, antedating to the period of the Ramayana, has seven ‘Prakarams’  (enclosures), four of which are inside and three outside the complex. Surrounded by magnificent towers, the outstanding 236-feet ‘Raja Gopuram’ at its southern entrance consecrated during MGR regime, adds to its grandeur.

Jayalalitha, accompanied by her friend Sasikala, was received with the traditional ‘Poorna Kumbha’ by the priests.  The battery cars were then dedicated to the temple by the chief minister who also launched the service with a ride.
