Medininagar: Two children and a woman died of snake bites in two villages in Jharkhand's Palamu district, police said on Friday.

The children, who are distant relatives of BJP MLA Alok Chourasia, died of snakebite at Narsinghpur Pathra village, while another incident took place at Bansdiha village, a police officer said.

"The children were asleep along with their father when they were bitten by a snake on Thursday. All three were admitted to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital and later referred to RIMS (Ranchi)," the MLA told reporters.

Arjun Kumar (10) and Dev Kumar (12) died en route to hospital, while the condition of their father, Prem Chaurasia, is critical, he said.

In the incident at Bansdiha village, a couple was bitten by a snake.

"Both have been admitted to Medinirai Rai Medical College and Hospital for treatment, where the woman, Shakuntala Devi, died. The husband's condition is critical," the police officer said.
