Asking sarpanches and panches to resign from their posts within four days, militants in south Kashmir Tuesday threatened the grass roots level representatives with dire consequences if they failed to do so.

Sources told Deccan Herald that threat posters appeared in several villages of Pulwama district reading: “We, through posters, warn every sarpanch and panch to announce their resignation till Friday through newspapers and also announce resignation before your community in mosques on the Friday.”

The poster warned of dire consequences if any sarpanch or panch ‘violates’ the diktat. “We would act against the violators very soon,” it read.

Though the posters were not attributed to any militant organization but pro-Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and pro-Laskar-e-Toiba slogan was inscribed on it, reports said.
