A non-resident Kashmiri doctor was arrested by the Jammu Police when he was on his way to Srinagar Airport on Sunday on charges of having links with militants.

Sources told Deccan Herald that Dr Shaheen Baba, who is settled in England, along with his brother, cousin and maternal uncle were on their way to the airport when police intercepted their car on Sunday afternoon.

“Baba had to board a plane at Srinagar Airport for his onward journey to London when police arrested him along with his relatives. They were whisked away to police station at Rajbagh for questioning,” they said.

Sources said Baba had arrived in Budgam some three months ago from London and was here since then. “Police believe that he is part of a local militant module in Kashmir and had received Rs 10 lakh for militant activities in Kashmir,” they said.

Sources said police were looking for more leads in the case and carried out raids at Chrar-e-Sharif and Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district to make further arrests.
