The Minister was speaking after handing over keys of 400 houses to beneficiaries and laying the foundation stone for 200 new houses under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Ltd and Vajpayee Housing scheme in Singanayakanahalli, Yelahanka. Somanna said each house had been built on a 300 sqft area at the cost of Rs 1.35 lakh.

Of the total sum, the beneficiaries contributed Rs 35,000, government paid Rs 50,000 in the form of subsidy and the balance was met with bank loans at six per cent interest. A sum of Rs 1.50 crore had been released to provide basic amenities like drinking water, underground drainage etc.

To make sure the houses are not sold by the men in the family, the possession certificate (Hakku Patra) was given in the name of woman in the family.

Somanna later laid the foundation stone to construct 500 houses and 800 flats under ‘Bhagya – Sampada – Yashasu’ programme in Rajanakunte. Foundation was also laid for construction of another 464 apartments in Kenchanahalli.
