A new online system has been designed under Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP), for the development of tribal community, particularly for the welfare of Koraga families in Dakshina Kannada district.
As per the plan, about 1,206 Koraga families will be given a smart card with a unique number which would help in maintaining every detail easily, online. If everything goes as per the plan, a new website will be launched on August 15.
The online system which has been developed with the help of Info Softex Company has two categories-- individual family and community. Each and every information about a Koraga family will be uploaded to family part, while details about the community will be available in another part. Along with maintaining information, the card would help to avail the government facilities as well.
Health
To provide health service to Koragas, the project has a tie-up with six hospitals in Mangalore city including A J Hospital, Father Mullers Hospital, KMC, and Yenepoya Hospital. It also has a tie-up with KVG Hospital in Sullia, Abhaya Hospital in Belthangady and with City Hospital in Puttur.
Koragas can get free health services in particular hospitals and the hospitals would send the bill to District Health Officer (DHO) which will be forwarded to ITDP and later to DC for approval through online. The ITDP also has a tie-up with LINK to treat alcoholics.
Overall development
In association with ‘Veta,’ the ITDP is planning to teach English to Koraga youth. Special coaching classes to Koraga children, to teach English, Mathematics and Science are on the cards.
The teachers or retired teachers who teach the children will be getting remuneration from the government. Education and health sub-committees are also formed to look into the issues.
In association with the youth service and sports department, the Koraga children, who are interested in sports can get special training.
During holidays, special training will be provided to the children studying in residential school and Ashrama schools. To create awareness among parents about the available facility, parents meeting will be called in taluk-level.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, ITDP Project Coordinator Sabeer Ahmed Mulla said: “Developing an online system for the development of Koragas and providing smart cards to them was a dream project. The hard work of the department staff, NGOs and Koraga community leaders is almost fulfilled. Deputy Commissioner N Prakash and Zilla Panchayat CEO Tulasi Maddineni are satisfied with the scheme. We are planning to launch it on Independence Day”.
Sabeer said that those Koraga families which might have missed during the survey can come to the office with supporting documents or send them through officials to avail the facility.
Meanwhile, he said that the details about drinking water, roads, anganwadi, electricity and community hall facilities provided by the government to Koraga colonies will be maintained through the webside.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Ombudsman and Jana Shikshana Trust Director Sheena Shetty said that the development of Koraga community can not happen in one or two years.
They don’t have problem of money, but they should get other facilities. Smart card which helps to get health and education is a big step in the process, he said.
