Addressing the district-level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting here at DC’s Office on Friday, he said each legislative constituency has the target to identify 4,000 beneficiaries. As many as 5,952 proposals have been approved in the first phase of the progarmme, he added.
The officials concerned informed that the yet to start proposals under Indira Awas Yojana have been surrendered to the government in order to make way for the new version of the housing scheme. Under Indira Awas Yojana in Udupi taluk, as many as 1,130 houses were sanctioned, of which about 760 have been completed and another 192 are under construction. Consequently, as many as 92 of the 192 are in the unfinished condition. In Kundapur taluk, as many as 35 of 216 are in unfinished condition. Likewise, in Karkala taluk, work on about 26 houses have not been started.
The discussion was held on overall financial progress of rural development programmes on the occasion.
As many as 34,280 families are registered under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the district. The total labour budget size earmarked for MGNREGS for 2010-11 financial year was Rs 1,827.798 lakhs, Gowda informed.
He informed that funds are allotted for Karnataka state under PMGSY in the current budget as the State was not considered for the benefits during previous year’s budget, he added.
The officer-in-charge of drinking water schemes informed that the proposals have been taken up to construct as many as 128 open wells and 304 vented dams in the district.
“We are not able to reach the expected goal as the work commenced very late. We will be able to finish off only 80 per cent of the planned work,” he added.
Gowda ordered official concerned to speed up the work process as drinking water problem will be solved once the monsoon season starts, he added.
Udupi Taluk Pancahayat President Devdas Hebbar stressed on the need to create awareness among public regarding water conservation and the metering process for public taps.
