Mysuru: The 12th edition of Kumbh Mela will be held from February 10 to 12, 2025, at the holy site of Thirumakudalu, known as the 'Prayagraj of South,' located at the confluence of the Cauvery and Kapila rivers, and Spatika Sarovara, in T Narsipur town, Mysuru district.
A preparatory meeting of the seers forum and Mysuru District Administration officials was held at the branch of Suttur Mutt on Thursday.
According to the officials, “The Kumbh Mela was first organised in 1989, following the wish of religious and spiritual leaders of the region for a Mahakumbha Mela in the south. It is being held once in three years and the last one was held in 2019. It was not held in 2022 due to the Covid-19. Thus, the mela is being held after a gap of six years. As, thousands of devotees are expected to participate, the religious leaders and the District Administration have started early preparations”.
During the meeting, the dates were also announced. “While the responsibilities were allocated, government cooperation was sought. It was decided that the site to be visited soon for an inspection to undertake necessary works. It was also decided to hold a meeting, chaired by H C Mahadevappa, district in-charge minister and also MLA of T Narasipur, to discuss the matter, further. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, a native of Mysuru, will also be invited,” officials said.
The meeting was attended by Suttur seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, Adichunchanagiri Mutt seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami, Jayendra Saraswati Swami of Thiruchi Mutt, Siddalinga Shivacharya Swami of Vatalu Mutt, and Someshwaranatha Swami of Mysuru branch of Adichunchanagiri Mutt. Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikant Reddy, SP N Vishnuvardhan, Assistant Commissioner K R Rakshit, and executive secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha C G Betasurmath were also present.
