Former advocate general B V Acharya lights a lamp to inaugurate 150th year celebrations of Mannagudde Gurji in Mangaluru.

The 150th year celebrations of Mannagudde Gurji was inaugurated at Gokula Kalyana Mantapa in Ashoknagar here, recently.

Former advocate general B V Acharya inaugurated the programme and lamented over religious issues reaching the court.

“The court should not interfere in the religious issues. We are not against castes. The reservation should be based on economic condition rather than on the basis of caste,” he felt.

Mannagudda Gurji website was launched by Karnataka Bank Non Executive Chairman P Jayaram Bhat.

Income Tax department Joint Commissioner P Suresh Rao inaugurated Children’s Wing of the
celebrations.

Theatre artiste Bolooru Nagesh Rao, four women who prepared wicks to be used during Gurji Utsav, Lakhsminarayana who had donated 150 ‘Goodudeepa’ for the utsav and Dayananda who had inaugurated new Gurji Mantapa were felicitated on the occasion.

Sri Lalitha Kala Vrunda Karkala presented Yakshagana on the occasion.

Sharavu Temple trustee Sharavu Raghavendra Shastri presided.

As a part of 150th year celebrations of Mannagudda Gurji, free health camp will be organised at Gokula Kalyana Mantapa at Ashoknagara on February 3.
