Kalaburagi: The Suburban station police officials on Saturday arrested two persons after shooting them in their legs in connection with robbing an ATM on the Ring Road here.
The arrested persons are Taslim Khan (28) and Sharif Noor Mohammad (20), who hail from Haryana. They are undergoing treatment at the trauma centre of the GIMS premises.
The other two robbers, Shahid Harid (27) and Amir Parid (25) from Telangana, surrendered before the police.
They broke an SBI ATM using a gas cutter in Ramanagar on the Ring Road here and decamped with Rs 18 lakh cash on April 9. They had arrived in the city to rob another ATM.
Acting on a tip-off, the police officials had gone to arrest the accused at the Belur Cross Industrial area here on Saturday morning. When the police asked them to surrender, the accused tried to escape after attacking the police.
CPI Santosh Thattepalli and PSI Basavaraja of Suburban police station shot Taslim and Sharif in the legs and arrested them. Constables Manju, Firoz and Rajkumar, who were injured in the attack, are being treated in the hospital, said Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner Sharanappa S D.
He said the accused had formed a gang three to four years ago and were using Google Maps to locate ATMs on the outskirts of the City. They used to target SBI ATMs for robbery.
He said, a total of 10 cases are registered against Taslim and three cases against Sharif in connection with ATM robbery in Karnataka and other states.
